Mammal Exclusion

Rats and mice are a common pests in the Pacific Northwest, especially in forested areas and near bodies of water. We provide exclusion work to make sure rodents and other mammals can't gain entry to your home. We have successfully excluded rodents as small as a field mouse, and as large as skunks from entering crawl spaces.

How It Works

Rats and mice are always a concern when they are entering your home. They are capable of causing tremendous damage to the electrical and plumbing systems within a home, such that fire and flooding can result in some cases. Additionally, they are vectors (spreaders) of disease such as Hantavirus, leptospirosis, salmonella, and other serious illnesses. Because of the way that homes are designed, if a rodent can gain access to the crawl space, they will have access to the wall voids and even the attic. They will even find ways to access the living space of your home if they are given enough time to do so.

Trapping and poison baiting rodents can be quite successful on its own, but it will likely only be a temporary fix to an ongoing problem if they are not blocked from accessing your home. Conducting exclusion work on the home is a clear, more permanent solution to this problem. Exclusion work essentially entails some combination of special screening material, pea gravel and steel wool. Rats and mice have the ability to compress their ribs to fit into tiny spaces, even as small as a quarter or dime, respectively. It takes a trained eye to locate and identify these small openings around a house, which can be anywhere; the crawl space access door, between the siding and foundation, crawl space vents, louvre vents, plumbing junctions etc.

Whatever the case may be, we can solve it. Small exclusion work can be included as part of the subscription of a general pest control service. Larger, more extensive issues may require more involved work. Contact us for a free consultation to see what is right for you.
